Annual Protection Seminar Offered

May 26, 2004 - Now, more than ever, is the time to learn how to improve the security and dependability of generator, transformer and distributed generation (DG) interconnection electrical protection in both utility and non-utility applications. Since the recent blackout of August 14, 2003, these topics have moved into the forefront as the industry attempts to improve asset security, preserve power delivery, and boost the integrity of the bulk power system.

Beckwith Electric is currently registering attendees for their annual Protection Seminar to be held September 26 - 30, 2004 in St. Petersburg, Florida. The early registration deadline is July 16; the final registration deadline is August 10. The seminar will be held at the Radisson Hotel in St. Petersburg, Florida.

This intensive four-day seminar builds the background needed to understand the complex subject of generator, transformer and DG interconnection protection, even with a limited knowledge of protective relaying. Those who should attend include: utility engineers; consultants-especially those involved in IPP/DG design; equipment/control design engineers; generator manufacturers and packagers; as well as others who specify protective equipment and develop settings for the electrical protection of generators, transformers and DG interconnections.

  • Detailed explanations on every element applied for the protection of generators, power transformers, and DG interconnections
  • How the "wild" power system affects your generator and transformers
  • Coordination of the AVR and generator protection for maximum security
  • Detailed calculations for generator and transformer protection schemes
  • DG interconnection impact on utility distribution protection and generator protection
  • Current Status of DG Rules and Regulations, such as IEEE P1547 and California Rule 21
  • Use of advanced commissioning and event investigation tools to verify protection scheme performance

The cost of the seminar is $800 and includes course materials, lunches, morning and afternoon breaks, two dinners and the Sunday evening welcome reception. An early registration discount of $100 is available to those registered by July 16. A 15% group discount is also available to companies that register three or more participants.
