FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Battery Transient Suppressor - Still a Great Value January 27, 2003 - Designed to prevent voltage transients from entering battery-operated relaying, control, and communications equipment, the Beckwith Electric M-0001 Battery Transient Suppressor has been helping users avoid costly service interruption and equipment damage for over 35 years. Available for only $205, the M-0001 still provides a great value. Bob Beckwith built the first M-0001 in his kitchen in Illinois in May 1967, constructing it with metal cut from a cookie sheet, and forged with a hammer and workshop vise. One of the first M-0001s performed admirably. It was wired across a $10,000 fault recorder powered by the station battery. An AC power line came in contact with one side of the battery, causing high current to flow to ground-just as it was designed to do. This held the voltage across the fault recorder terminals, preventing damage. The M-0001 conducted a DC arc long enough to blow a fuse with the recorder undamaged. The user of this M-0001 became one of Beckwith Electric's first repeat customers. From these humble yet auspicious beginnings came the first in a long line of protection and control products from Beckwith Electric. The M-0001 is still only $205, a great value that does what it promises - 35 years later. # # # For more information: |
