Seminar Highlights

What Is It?

Smart Grid Essentials is an intensive four-day seminar that will provide you the knowledge,  inside information and the resources you need to understand the complex topics of Integration and Implementation of Volt/VAr management for Smart Grid communications and technologies of today.  What ever the current status of your power system, the seminar will teach you the next steps to reach your individual system upgrade goals towards Smart Grid communications integration and implementation.  In addition, you will have opportunities to interact with knowledgeable instructors and informative industry leaders in a casual environment.

What Does It Cover?

The Smart Grid Essentials Seminar will present the theoretical and practical principal aspects relating to integrating Volt/VAr management strategies consistent with Smart Grid objectives for asset management and reliability in the distribution system. Discuss implementation of LTC transformer control, line regulator control along feeders, pole top capacitor bank control (remote and local), power quality issues; sags swells CBEMA and harmonics, as well as protection of the intertie with disbursed, alternative, or green energy sources.  Investigate system performance enhancements such as use of; autodaptive techniques, VAr Biasing, Line Drop Compensation (LDC), flattening the voltage profile end to end and Conservation Voltage Control, paralleling for single bus, double bus and ring bus configurations, SCADA heartbeat integrity checks, and automatic change over on loss of communications. Additional topics include communications; ports, protocols and media and the use of Ethernet over fiber optics, IEC 61850, mesh networks, reporting by exception and unsolicited reporting, broadcast capabilities for voltage collapse mitigation, distribution VAr support to transmission for voltage collapse mitigation, and much more.

Who Should Attend?

Utility engineers, systems designers, IT and power communications specialists, consultants, equipment/control engineers, manufacturer engineers as well as others who specify power systems development products and settings for current and future technologies.

Where Is It?

The Smart Grid Essentials Seminar with daily breakfast and lunch will be held at the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort in Clearwater Beach, Florida. The resort overlooks the picturesque Gulf of Mexico and sits on 10 beautiful acres of white sandy beach.  Within walking distance are many restaurants, sporting activities and nightlife.
