| Apply Integrated DG Interconnection Protection
to Reduce Costs and Facilitate Standardization
Economically meet utility interconnection requirements for DG applications with the M-3410A and M-3520 Relays.
Your Benefits:
Get Connected! The M-3410A and M-3520 Intertie Protection Relays meet the challenges of utility DG (distributed generation). The primary objectives of these relays are to provide economy and integration of functions. Protection and More The M-3410A and M-3520 provide protection against islanding and fault backfeed, as well as damaging system conditions and abnormal power flows. Restoration facilities include reconnect timing logic and sync check supervised reclosing. These Integrated Protection Systems® (IPS) expand the efficiency of your operations by providing extended functions such as metering, monitoring, event logging, waveform capture (oscillography), and local/remote serial communications. Scalable Application Utility and power pool interconnection requirements typically increase in complexity as the DG capacity increases. This increased complexity typically includes additional fault backfeed protections and improved sensitivity. To address this, we offer two packages for DG application. The M-3410A is tailored for smaller DG installations, typically 10 kW to 2 MVA. The M-3520 is tailored toward medium and larger installations, typically 1 MVA to 10 MVA. Either relay can handle different types of interconnection transformer winding and grounding arrangements. Meeting Utility Standards The M-3410A and M-3520 have been approved for DG interconnection duty in California (Rule 21), Texas, New York and in other utilities and power pools. Both relays exceed the ANSI 1547 standard. Beckwith Electric will partner with you and provide support for utility approval should a utility not yet have approved the relays. The relays meet pertinent ANSI, IEC, UL, and CSA standards, including ANSI C37-90.2 RFI at 35 V/Mwhich is helpful for standardization purposes worldwide. The M-3410A also is CE compliant. Beckwith Electric is an ISO 9001 certified company. Communications Ability The M-3410A and the M-3520 employ MODBUS RTU for integration into DG plant control systems or utility SCADA. Ease-of-Use The Integrated Protection Systems communications software (IPScom®) provides easy configuration, as well as setting and viewing of logs and data from the relay. All interactions are divided into small, logical steps. The software can be used to print all configurations and settings to automate the recording process of each relays application. Factory Acceptance Testing, Commissioning, Trip Dispute Resolution and Warranty Investigation Tools The metering functions include sequence components and power calculations. With these, it is it is quick and easy to verify proper wiring of complete protection systemsfrom the instrument transformers to the relay, and everything in between. Improper phasing and polarity reversals are easily seen as high negative sequence quantities. IPSplot®, our software program for viewing captured waveforms (digital oscillography), is available as a small cost extra for the relay, and is a comprehensive tool for detailed event analysis. The M-3520 employs an IRIG-B input for coordinated time stamping of events with other devices. Application Flexibility Programmable I/O allows the elements to be linked to various output contacts, and to be blocked by control (contact sensing) inputs. This flexibility allows the M-3410A and M-3520 to meet various trip logic as mandated by each application. All elements can be disabled or enabled in order to custom match the utilitys requirements and location of interrupting devices. The suite of elements can be adapted to meet differing protection requirements from type of DG (induction, synchronous or asynchronous), size, and interconnection transformer winding and grounding arrangements. |
