Distribution P&C Application Engineer

We are seeking seasoned (5+ years’ experience) skilled technical talent to join our Marketing Team. Ideally, you are familiar with distribution reclosers and recloser controls, both new and legacy, and distribution reclosing practices, including autonomous recloser control-based schemes as well as FLISR/FDIR schemes with DMS and communications involvement.

Beckwith Electric supplies a universal recloser control for use in new and retrofit applications. This position will involve the following for Reclosing Control application and development:

  • Specification Development for Productization
  • Competitive Analysis
  • Assisting Product Engineering with understanding application challenges and suggesting methods to meet them
  • Contributing to marketing and sales materials, as well as Application Notes and Technical Papers
  • Working with Recloser OEM Alliance Partners and their Sales/Application/Marketing
  • Training Sales managers, Representatives and Customers on application and use of the Reclosing Control.


The candidate should be/have:

  • Knowledge of distribution system operation, protection and control. Electric Utility or Recloser vendor experience preferred.
  • Ability to read/modify power electrical drawings: 1-line, 3-line, DC elementary, logic, SAMA and control wiring diagrams
  • Ability to understand P-Q, R-X and vector diagrams
  • Ability to use mathematical analysis for power systems such as per unit conversions, fault calculations, and understand P-Q, R-X and vector diagrams.
  • Ability to interface with P&C devices instrumentation (connect up, use configuration software, some digital communications knowledge)
  • Ability to read/interpret power system diagnostic information from P&C devices such as event logs, fault records and digital oscillographs
  • Written and verbal skills as this position requires Sales Partner and Customer interface.
  • Ability to write procedures for application of reclosing controls in distribution reclosers, create presentations, create graphics (VISIO experience desired).
  • Ability to train others, ability to speak in front of small groups (2-10)


AAS or BS degree (technical), Military Equivalent OK (ex., Nuclear Navy Program, Electrical Track)


Some travel, perhaps to 20-30%, typically to Customer sites for training, troubleshooting and commissioning assistance. The work location is our headquarters in Largo, Florida.
