Senior Program Manager

SUMMARY

The Senior Project Management will be responsible for the execution of multiple, successful project completions from Product Development to Manufacturing, as well as ensuring that key marketing and quality initiatives are being met on schedule and on budget. This role will include major cost optimization activities in a multi-functional discipline matrix environment. This role will be responsible for the planning, organizing and coordinating of all project & sustainment activities/tasks. This is a key leadership role within the company driving key operational objectives, including managing budget, schedule and performance of products within the Engineering department.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

Share the responsibility of providing positive cash flow and profitability of the Company with all other employees.

Project Management

This role will primarily focus on critical deliverables and high priority projects, acting as a hands-on resource within the engineering department. The incumbent must be a proactive, results-oriented, and self-motivated team player with strong organizational skills and excellent written and verbal communication. Experience in project management roles (development through product launch) using MS Project or similar project management software tools are a must. This role must always seek continuous improvement around developing solutions that offers the highest level of performance at the lowest costs. The Program Manager must have the ability to guide the successful completion of major programs, processes, and projects and take on a project leadership role, exhibiting exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness.

The Program Manager creates an environment where the skills of individuals are developed and applied creating value for the business. The candidate must have people management skills and experience in leading multi-disciplined/functional project teams, and can demonstrate the ability to manage teams effectively. The role should readily accept responsibility and accountability for project and associated key decisions. The ability to understand the functions of product development and build partnerships between functions and cultures to accomplish the goals of the project will be critical in this role. Experience and awareness of industry standards and regulations such ISO 9001, etc. and how these relate to internal policies and procedures will also be required. The ability to multi-task in a changing environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines will allow this Program Manager to succeed.

Written communication

The Program Manager can clearly communicate status of projects and breaks down complex issues into understandable terms. Keeps verbal discussions at the appropriate level of detail for the audience and follows up on necessary action items. Has a strong attention to detail and can drive down to root cause when investigating issues. When problem solving, the PM considers the broader approach. The PM is persistently focused on compliance, quality, and customer satisfaction, and can appropriately balance these while striving to achieve key customer-centric objectives. This position requires hands-on technical skills to understand and manage the resolution of complex project issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages multiple projects and multiple project teams.
  • Interprets multi-discipline drawings and specifications in support of project performance.
  • Coordinates and integrates any changes to project specifications and budgets.
  • Provides progress reports for all projects (ETC, EAC, etc) and ensures timely and accurate reporting.
  • Advises management on new developments which may affect schedule, costs, technical performance, customer relations, and/or interdepartmental relations in a timely manner.
  • Works with cross-functional department managers and employee resources to effectively manage and complete programs.
  • Can be principle contact between Beckwith Electric and its internal and external customers in support of company goals and objectives.
  • Maintains a strong working knowledge of Beckwith Electric products as well as current and related competitive products.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
  • Supports company lean and continuous improvement projects and objectives.
  • Works with marketing team to ensure that planned product development innovations match or exceeds market expectations.
  • Provides clarity to new product development and product improvement initiatives setting development goals specific to the needs of the power producing and delivery industry.
  • Responsible for all new product introduction project related activities which include applying project/program management methodology in efforts to:
    • Develop new technical capabilities, knowledge and design concepts (R&D)
    • Commercialize new technical capabilities (commercialization)
    • Manage the evaluation / resolution of issues such as costs, variances, etc.
  • Responsible for delivering assigned projects on-time, on-budget, and meeting all internal and external required specifications.
  • Developing cross-functional plans together with the project team including realistic but aggressive timelines, budgets, and resource planning, risk assessment, and contingency planning.
  • Driving requirements, estimating, coordinating engineering and validation, and production, maintaining, and continuously improving processes to coordinate the execution of work.
  • Responsible for the organization and facilitation of internal and external project meetings, ensuring communication is transparent so all key stakeholders are aware of progress and critical path tasks / issues.
  • Interface with OEMs / external suppliers and design partners to ensure adherence to schedule and quality of delivery.
  • Implementing design-to-cost principles to meet cost goals and monitors cost status.
  • Preparing and executing countermeasures against schedule, cost scope slips. Driving the team to “out of box” thinking and creative issue resolution.
  • Maintaining control over the project by measuring performance and taking corrective or preventive measures where appropriate.
  • Acting as spokesperson for the project, which may include representing the program internally and externally. Understanding the communication needs and styles of the stakeholders, and responding accordingly.
  • Developing a risk management plan and executing risk management processes, developing risk responses to eliminate or reduce the probability and impact of project risks. Ensures that contingency and fallback plans are in place if risk events are realized. Identifying potential risks and issues for timely escalation to the team or functional manager.
  • Ensuring the project meets expectations for manufacturing transfer in terms of design release, procedure readiness, bills of material readiness, etc. Works with the receiving manufacturing team to ensure that specific requirements are met.
  • Completes project closure activities including: gathering lessons learned, updating records, hands-off of project deliverables, transitioning mutually agreed upon issues to downstream functional groups.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements. Propose and establish new product development and project coordination procedures and processes.
  • Experience in BOM and item creation as well as updating documentation such as Engineering Change Orders / Notices (ECOs / ECNs).

Required EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Physics, or related area.
  • MBA and/or PMP certification is strongly desired.
  • Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated program management experience within an engineering development environment.
  • Strong background developing and maintaining schedules using Microsoft Project or equivalent project management software.
  • Knowledge of integrated financial/ERP systems.
  • Knowledge and / or implementation of a “stage gate”, or similar product development process.
  • Exceptional communication skills (written/verbal/presentation/relationship building)
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office suite products.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, etc. forms and move projects to completion.
  • The ability to work with and without direct supervision.
  • Familiarity with lean and continuous improvement concepts.
  • Annual demonstration of continuing education through course work, seminars, conferences, certifications, etc.

Desired EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced degree in technical or business discipline.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of power industry.
  • Experience with power industry controls and actuators.
  • Lean/six-sigma training and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

The individual must have the ability to read, write, and understand spoken English and the ability to read and understand product requirements and performance specifications. The individual must have strong communication skills and the ability to interface directly with all levels and management and customers.
