- Planning - Standard planning services include Long Range Plans,
Construction Work Plans, Power Requirements Studies, and Sectionalizing
Studies. We can prepare Work Plan Amendments on short notice. Specialized
studies include those such as Feasibility and Reliability Studies, SCADA
Feasibility, Line Loss Analysis, Power Flow Studies, Fault Studies,
Capacitor Requirements, and Regulator Requirements. In the preparation
of the studies, we can use your calculations, our calculations, or a
combination of the two. Our goal is to provide you with flexible and
useable studies. We want to prepare studies that are useful, “living”
documents, not books languishing on shelves gathering dust.
- Mapping - System maps can be generated in either standard RUS
format or other format, which the client may prefer. We can generate
base maps in-house, but usually use base maps purchased from other sources.
We then add layers and features needed by the individual client. We
have large format digitizers and plotters to aid in entering and outputting
the drawings.
- Regulatory and Financial - Regulatory and financial services
include cost-of-service/rate studies, financial forecasts, rules and
regulations, line extension policies, and various other management related
services. We have the expertise and qualifications to prepare studies
and present testimony before appropriate administrative or judicial

Electric Utility Rate Analysis and Sales Tax Auditing
- Capacitor Placement - Every planning study, either short term
or long term, takes a look at power factor and voltage drop to determine
placement and need of capacitors. Line Loss Analysis and Capacitor Placement
Studies can be performed to yield optimized placement of switched pole-top
capacitors in the distribution system and subsequent line loss analysis
performed after the placement has been completed. In the past, capacitor
placement was done looking at the VAr flows produced in the power flow
analysis program. In recent years, computer programs are used to determine
optimum placement of capacitors to provide the desired results. This
program allows the selection of desired power factor to maintain and
set the size limitation on capacitors to use in the optimization.
- Rate Analysis – Recover funds and reduce electric utility bills
with an electric bill audit. We review and audit electric utility accounts,
research alternate rates, tariffs, surcharges, riders and discounts,
clarify and correct billing, clerical and rate errors, and communicate
with the electric utility to recover funds due. Mike

Field Work
