Project Planner

Description

The role of the Project Planner is to plan, execute, and finalize projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. This includes identify resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. The Project Planner will also define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage project development from beginning to end.
  • Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents.
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
  • Where required, negotiate with other department managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company.
  • Determine and assess need for additional staff and/or consultants during project cycle.
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
  • Track project milestones and deliverables.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
  • Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
  • Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout project life cycle.
  • Conduct project post mortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management.

Position Requirements

  • University degree or college diploma in the field of Engineering, Physics or other science related field.
  • 5 years direct work experience in a project management capacity, including all aspects of process development and execution.
  • Strong familiarity with project management software, such as Microsoft Office Project
  • Solid working knowledge of current Internet technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management.
  • Technically competent with various software programs, such as Microsoft Office.
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.
  • Flexible during times of change.
  • Ability to read communication styles of team members and contractors who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines.
  • Persuasive, encouraging, and motivating.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments.
  • Ability to defuse tension among project team, should it arise.
  • Ability to bring project to successful completion through political sensitivity.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and products.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.

Software Engineer

Designs, develops, and debugs embedded and Windows programs, in conjunction with hardware product development, by performing the following duties.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Consult with hardware engineers/other engineering staff to evaluate interface between hardware and software, and operational and performance requirements of overall system.
  • Design embedded control software using Assembly, C, or other higher level languages.
  • Use C++/Visual C++/C# to develop MS Windows based software packages.
  • Develop software for communication protocols DNP, Modbus, IEC 61850.
  • Develop code for Programmable Logic Devices (PLDs).
  • Work with Hardware engineers integrating components in designs.
  • Write and debug software using real-time programming.
  • Design and maintain in-house software with OLE/DLL for automatic test equipment.
  • Provide hardware design for support and improve existing products.
  • Develop and direct software system testing procedures and documentation.

Additional Responsibilities:

Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Be a fully competent engineer in the subject matter or the functional areas of the assignments. Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devise new approaches to problems. Independently perform assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval of projects.

Education, Experience, Skills & Knowledge:

BSEE, BSCE or fifth year college or university program certificate; with 12 years or more of related experience; and/or training. Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 12 years in software coding using "C", "C++", “C#” and/or Assembly language. Twelve years experience on C++, C#, Windows Graphical User Interface (GUI) programming with object oriented methodologies. Familiar with the operation of PC using DOS/Windows and Linux operating systems. Familiar with high speed serial communication techniques (RS232, 485, modem). Familiar with Ethernet communications as well.
