Systems Field Service Engineer

The following represent brief/broad descriptions. It is not intended, nor should it be construed, to represent a comprehensive and/or exhaustive description of all duties/responsibilities and requisite skills associated with the position.

Responsible for testing, installation checkout and commissioning of custom products and systems. Assists in the design of Beckwith System Engineering projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Service

  • Develop procedures and instructions required by the company and customer for checkout and testing of customized products and services to verify functionality and operations.
  • As required, assist customers with field testing, checkout and commissioning providing home office and field-site service.
  • As required, assist customers with resolution of field problems providing trouble shooting and repair services.

Designs

  • Read and analyze customer specifications and drawing and incorporate requirements into design activities. Document and bring to attention of supervisor areas which company cannot comply and must take exception.
  • Remain up-to-date on established industry standards, guidelines and common practices applicable to the industrial and electric utility markets, both domestic and international.
  • Develop needed drawings, BOM and instructions required for the manufacture and testing customized products and systems.

Project Involvement

  • Work with others to coordinate and assist in the engineering, testing and resolution of problems on a timely and orderly basis.
  • Develop and adhere to approved project schedule providing supervision and/or customer with appropriate status and review reports and conduct design review meeting as may be required.
  • Develop application manuals, instruction books, installation and testing procedures and methods and other required documentation.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the development and preparation of comprehensive technical proposals in response to customer requirements and solicitations. Includes preliminary design, detail costing and description of company offering.
  • As required, assist marketing with customer visits and presentations, participation at industry trade shows and conferences and training for company personnel and sales representatives.
  • As required, travel domestically and internationally in fulfillment of duties and responsibilities. • Understand and comply with ISO 9000 training.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A.S. degree in electronic technology or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Background in power systems, protective relaying and controls.
