UNIT DESCRIPTION: The M-5625 Syncrocloser® Digital Synchronizing System is suitable for the automatic synchronizing of a generator to the electric power network. The system provides speed and voltage “jogs” to bring a generator to proper conditions of matching voltage and frequency, prior to safely and accurately closing a breaker into a bus energized by an electric power network. The Digital Synchronizing System is intended for three general classes of application:

  • Initial connection of a generator to a power network
  • Closure of a network breaker where there is a possibility of a split of the system into two isolated networks having different frequencies
  • Breaker closure applications with a static phase angle

    The system can also be used for manual synchronizing application. The system consists of one M-0193B Syncrocloser® Unit, one M-0194 Generator Control Unit and one M-3410A Sync-Check Plus Relay.

   SYNCROCLOSER® UNIT, M-0193B
   

The M-0193B Syncrocloser® Unit closes the generator breaker at the point of synchronism. It initiates the close command in advance of phase coincidence using breaker closing time and slip frequency, accurate to ±0.5° at slip frequencies below 0.1 Hz. Adjustable front panel controls are provided for upper and lower voltage, voltage difference (ΔV) limit and frequency difference (ΔF) limit. Gen/line, bus and supply voltages are transformer isolated to allow freedom in application. The M-0193B includes the M-0194 Generator Control Unit compatibility feature, and the user-selectable anti-motoring feature.

   GENERATOR CONTROL UNIT, M-0194
   

The M-0194 Generator Control Unit matches the generator speed and voltage to system conditions in minimum time with output control jogs that use a proportional pulse width algorithm. The time between jogs is adjustable to match the response characteristics of the control, prime mover and generator system. The kicker pulse brings phase angle around through zero degrees if speed is matched but synchronism has not yet occurred.

NOTE: The companion M-0193 Syncrocloser® Unit must be ordered with a ∆V limit of 4 to 20 V or lower.

  INTERTIE/GENERATOR PROTECTION, M-3410A
    The Intertie/Generator Protection System® M-3410A provides protection, control, monitoring and user interface functions. Includes protection for abnormal voltage, frequency, overcurrent, directional power, and VT fuse loss. Sync-check and programmable reconnect time are also provided. Stored sequence of events and oscillography are included as extended functions. RS-232 and RS-485 communication ports provide user and SCADA interface capabilities. The M-3810A IPScom® Communications Software is included for direct serial or
remote communication access. Waveform data can be downloaded using IPScom®, while the IPSplot®PLUS Oscillograph Analysis Software allows for plotting and printing of the downloaded oscillographic data. Sensing voltage up to 480 volts, accepts 1 A or 5 A nominal current, phase rotation (ABC or ACB) and nominal frequency (50 or 60 Hz) are user selectable in software.
